Board of Directors

Board Composition

Community Legal Services (CLS) Board of Directors is made up of lawyers licensed to practice in the CLS service area and persons who were financially eligible to be served as a client of the program at the time of their appointment to the Board.

All CLS Board Members serve on a voluntary, uncompensated basis, and may serve two consecutive, three-year terms.  The Board meets bi-monthly from September through May and recesses in the summer.  Officers and members of the Executive Committee are elected, and Chairpersons of standing committees are appointed by the Board President.  CLS board meetings are open to the public.

The CLS Board of Directors regularly reviews financial reports, funding proposals and advocacy reports.  The Board of Directors reviews and approves program policies and procedures, the operating budget, and substantive areas of law practiced in the firm.

Community Legal Services’ Board Members are actively committed to the concept of “equal justice for all.”
