Community Legal Services values it CORE component as a way of taking our services to the communities in which we provide services (see Service Areas). Outreach activities and initiatives allow staff to connect, educate, share ideas and practices with other organizations, offices and groups whose missions are to provide services to our target community – persons with low-incomes.
CLS and its Board recognizes the important role CLS plays in the communities it serves. That role goes far beyond litigation and individual case assistance. Community involvement provides opportunities for “preventive lawyering”, where early intervention and education may avoid the creation of problems which escalate into highly adversarial situations. Therefore, CLS and its Board are committed to ensuring that staff at all its offices look for opportunities to engage in community education directed toward our client population, within the firm’s practice areas.
By connecting at all levels in our communities from grass roots to the most sophisticated of organized programs, we are able to provide educational information to our broadest client community and offer presentations and materials on the rights and responsibilities of persons our laws. Our goal is to teach persons how to avoid, prevent or correct certain legal problems from occurring or re-occurring in the future.
CLS works with municipal government offices, the courts, shelters, social and human service organizations, and a variety of other community groups to ensure that legal services are an integral part of the seamless service delivery system to the low-income community in Arizona. Outreach activities, like all CLS programs, are mission driven and serve to leverage CLS’ services to our client community while ensuring equal access to justice for all persons, regardless of income.
